Doug & Shawn Way
Doug Way, who is a graduate of Indiana University and the Graduate School of Banking, University of Wisconsin, holds international certifications in both Risk Management and Captive Insurance Management. Doug retired from the South Bend Police Department in 1993 to join 1st Source Bank, where he took early retirement from in 2016, to grow ‘As It Should Bee Apiaries’. While at 1st Source Bank Doug started Washington and Michigan Insurance inc. which he was President of until retirement in 2016.
Doug was named Indiana University South Bend’s Community Individual Sustainability Award Recipient in 2016, is recipient of the ‘Key to the City’ from two South Bend Mayors, the Ernestine M. Raclin Community Leadership Award, 1992 Police Officer of the Year Northern District of Indiana and was a nominee for 1992 Police Officer of the Year for the State of Indiana. In 1980, while serving as a Police Officer in South Bend, Doug was honored by the South Bend City Council with a public proclamation for Bravery Beyond The Call Of Duty.
Shawn Way graduated from Indiana University’s Russian and Eastern European Institute, with degrees in Slavic Languages and Literature. Shawn, an Eagle Scout who continues to volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, left employment with Whole Foods in late 2016 to join ‘As It Should Bee Apiaries’ full time. Shawn is a member of the ABF, MBA, The Beekeepers of Indiana and Michiana Beekeepers Association.
